Wheelchair hit on street

UPDATE: 12 p.m.

Const. James Grandy with the RCMP has confirmed that an individual in a wheelchair was hit while crossing Duncan Avenue at Government Street. 

"This was a truck which slowly drove into a woman in a wheelchair as she was crossing the intersection," Grandy said. 

Serious injuries were sustained, and Grandy said the investigation is ongoing.

Traffic was briefly redirected at Government Street and Duncan Avenue in Penticton following reports of a crash involving a person in a wheelchair.

Multiple fire trucks responded to the scene late Monday morning, along with RCMP.

Reports indicate an individual was struck in a wheelchair and a chair was seen being wheeled away from the scene by fire crews.
