'It burst into flames'

UPDATE: 7:10 p.m.

The driver of an SUV that burst into flames just north of Osoyoos heard clunking noises coming from his engine just before the fire consumed his vehicle.

Osoyoos fire chief Ryan McCaskill said they responded to the fire near Highway 97 and 108 Avenue just before 5 p.m.

“(The driver) was going north on Highway 97 and he heard a clunking and lost all power to the vehicle, so he got the car off to the side of the road and as soon as he came to a stop it burst into flames," McCaskill said.

The fire started under the hood, and a line of fluid appears to have come from the vehicle before it came to a stop.

While McCaskill says there wasn't much danger of the fire spreading from the road, firefighters had to be cognizant of the power lines above while knocking down the blaze.
