Waiting on insurance firm

The City of Penticton is waiting on the insurance company before it can start repairs on the Kiwanis Walking Pier on Okanagan Lake.

City engineer Ian Chapman says a contractor has already been selected for the work, which was partially delayed this spring by the elevated level of Okanagan Lake.

“We are waiting in the insurance company to consider their position on paying,” he said. “We need that money to proceed with the tender.”

Chapman is hopeful repairs can start at the end of this summer. The final work may not be complete until early next year, although the pier should be open before then.

It has been closed since spring 2017’s high water episode. The repair job will cost up to $278,000.
