Dump truck fire on Hwy 97

The Oliver Volunteer Fire Department quickly doused a dump truck fire Friday afternoon on Highway 97.

Crews were called to the highway just south of Skagit Avenue around 10:30 a.m., arriving to a dump truck with heavy fire and smoke billowing from the engine compartment.

Fire department spokesman Rob Graham said it was a relatively straight-forward fire to extinguish.

“A fire engine at the scene was able to hook up to a hydrant and feed it some water, knock it down,” he said. “We did have to redirect some traffic around the area just to keep everybody away from the large column of smoke that was coming off the engine.”

Graham says they had the fire cleaned up in about 45 minutes.
