Singla search warrant sealed

The CBSA raid earlier this month on the home offices of the Singla family in Penticton will remain shrouded in mystery for the time being.

The legal documents outlining the purpose of the search warrant and seized items have been sealed by the courts, according to the Surrey registry where they are being held.

Search warrants are typically public documents, but can be sealed by a justice if access to them would “subvert the ends of justice or the information would be put to an improper purpose.”

The Canadian Border Services Agency raided the Singla home office on Heather Road on June 7, but have refused to confirm anything but that they were undertaking an “enforcement action.”

“It is not the practice of the CBSA to comment about its ongoing investigations,” the agency said in a brief statement after the raid.

The Singlas have remained equally quiet, only releasing a statement through their lawyer saying no charges have been laid against any member of the family or employee of their business.

Singla Bros. has operated in Penticton since 1973 as a developer and landlord. The company’s website boasts 200 rental properties in the area and lists the Heather Road home as its offices.
