Just days until the Cruise

Chelsea Powrie

A lot has changed since president Wayne Wood started out with the Peach City Beach Cruise 10 years ago, but one thing remains the same: it's going to be a busy weekend.

Almost 850 cars have signed up this year, which Wood says is roughly 100 more than last year.

"We got a little more space this year, and it will sell out," Wood said. "It's interesting for our parking people to organize it all."

In his first year, they were thrilled to get to 400 cars before the end of the show.

"It's grown a little bit," he joked.

There will be live entertainment at Gyro Park and cars lining the streets from June 22 to 24. And it isn't just about the entertainment. Wood says the event gives back to Penticton in the form of an economic boost.

"Each of these cars will spend $1,000 to $2,000 easily, just in accommodation, meals, things that they buy," Wood said. "And then just to buy gas to go home!"

Wood assures even longtime attendees that there will be plenty of new cars to check out.

"There's always something new. We have about 30 per cent always here and the other [70] rotate on a three to five year basis," Wood said.
