837 evac alerts lifted

More than 650 properties near the Similkameen River are no longer at the risk of flooding.

The RDOS has rescinded a further 263 evacuation alerts for properties in Area G and H, while the Town of Princeton has called off 389 alerts. 

The Similkameen River is currently flowing below 320 cubic meters per second near Hedley, according to federal data — less than half of the river's peak of about 640 on May 10.

The notices come shortly after 185 evacuation alerts were lifted in rural Oliver and OK Falls, meaning 837 properties have been taken off alert today in the region.

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has rescinded 185 evacuation alerts in rural Oliver and Okanagan Falls related to flooding.

The regional district announced Tuesday the situation along Shuttleworth Creek in OK Falls has diminished to safe levels, with the creek flowing at a lower rate within its banks.

Fifty-four homes were placed on alert or evacuation order after the creek jumped its banks on May 10, flooding homes and roadways.

Another 131 homes in the Sportsmens Bowl area north of Oliver are also off evacuation alert, however several properties in the immediate vicinity of Park Rill Creek remain under an evacuation order. The Park Rill watershed has been dealing with an incredible amount of water since very early this spring.
