Calling all animal lovers

Animal lovers are encouraged to unite at the annual general meeting for the South Okanagan-Similkameen SPCA on Wednesday.

The meeting is open to the public and will allow attendees to learn about the work the BC SPCA does to support the community's vulnerable animals.

Though the public can't vote on decisions brought forward at the meeting, they will have the option to join the SPCA as a member for the price of $30 per year.

"Nobody usually shows up," said Carolyn Hawkins, BC SPCA South Okanagan Similkameen branch. "But it helps with advocacy, humane education and a whole bunch of other things."

Last year, the South Okanagan Similkameen branch helped over 700 abused, neglected, abandoned and injured animals.

The meeting will include information on how volunteers can get involved with the SPCA's efforts by offering administrative support, help with fundraising and public events, advocacy on local animal issues and other activities that support the work of the branch.

For more information, call the South Okanagan Similkameen SPCA Branch at 250-493-0136.  The meeting will take place on March 14 at 5 p.m. at the SPCA shelter located at 2200 Dartmouth Drive in Penticton.
