Family Day events abound

'Family Day' will live up to its billing in the South Okanagan on Monday, as ample family activities are available up and down the region.

In Summerland, there will be a free skate at the Summerland Arena from noon to 1 p.m.

Afterwards, the Summerland Steam Junior B team hosts the Princeton Posse at 2 p.m. The Steam are providing 25 free 'family passes,' and those interested can call Summerland Parks and Recreation to be added to the list.

The public will be able to skate with the Penticton Vees for free from noon to 2 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Skate rentals are $2 and proceeds will go to the Penticton Minor Hockey Association. There will also be free hot chocolate and coffee, provided by Starbucks.

Outside the SOEC, Marketplace IGA is hosting a barbecue by donation outside of Gate 1, from noon until 2 p.m.

A toonie swim will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Penticton Community Centre pool.

Staff from the Penticton Library will be screening 'Despicable Me 3' at the Cleland Theatre, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

In Oliver, a 'neon skate' is scheduled at the Oliver Arena from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Skate rentals will be free, and there will be hot chocolate, face painting, music and lights. Those attending are asked to wear bright and bold colours.

Further south in Osoyoos, there will be a 'disco skate' at the Sunbowl Arena from noon until 2 p.m. The skate is free and there will be hot dogs and cupcakes available.

For those hoping to head to the slopes, both Mount Baldy and Apex Mountain will both be offering 50 per cent off lift tickets for BC and Alberta residents who have government-issued ID.
