Thieves hitting mailboxes

The Keremeos RCMP is reporting an uptick in mail theft in the area.

Cpl. Brian Evans says at least 12 mailboxes have been broken into in the Lower Similkameen this month, adding mail theft has been an ongoing problem in the entire South Okanagan for some time now.

Evans suspects the thieves are driving through Lower Similkameen communities specifically targeting community mailboxes, moving from mailbox to mailbox overnight.

“Check you mail daily, and there will be less of a chance — these things are generally happening overnight so if you don’t leave your mailbox full there is nothing for them to steal,” he said.
