Man facing burglary charges

The Osoyoos RCMP is announcing charges against a local man in connection to a residential break and enter.

Police were first called to an Osoyoos home on 2nd Ave. on Nov. 25, 2017 for a burglary. The investigation led officers to a hotel room where a search warrant was conducted and a large amount of stolen property was seized.

“Many of the items seized had been stolen over the preceding few days during other residential break and enters as well as thefts from vehicles,” Sgt. Jason Bayda said in a news release.  “A firearm was also seized from the room.”

Kael Svendsen, 21, has been charged with 13 charges including; break and enter, eight counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of fraud under $5,000, one count of possession of a firearm without a permit and one count of unsafe storage of a firearm.

He made his first appearance in Penticton court Wednesday and will reappear Jan. 31 to consult legal counsel.
