Airlifted out of Apex

One person was airlifted out of Apex Mountain on Saturday after an incident on the slopes.

The person appeared to be bleeding from an unknown injury, according to a bystander.

“We don’t know how they were injured and they don’t know how they were injured, we asked them,” said James Shalman, Apex general manager. “They had a fall and they did have a puncture, which can happen.”

The patient was transported by helicopter to Kelowna General Hospital and is doing ‘relatively’ okay, according to Shalman.

On Dec. 30 three ambulances were also called to Apex for other injuries, which is typical for a busy weekend at Apex, added Shalman.

“Not that we deal with this every single day but it does happen and that one was particularly bad,” he said. “We don’t like to see air evacuations.”

The extent of the persons injuries are unknown.
