Thousands lost in car fire

A South Okanagan woman has lost over a thousand dollars worth of ranching gear and more after her car went up in flames early Wednesday morning.

Caley Howard said she left her car by the Osoyoos Indian Band office in Oliver on Christmas Eve, after her tire blew out.

"I figured I'd pick it up after Boxing Day when stores opened again," Howard said, adding she lives not far away.

She was shocked to get a phone call from police on Dec. 27, who had discovered her car ablaze.

"I had my ranching gear in there, my cowboy hats, my birth certificate," Howard said. "It's all ruined, it's awful."

Howard works at Oliver's Stelkia Ranch.

Police have told her they are looking into possible surveillance footage of the incident from cameras on the Osoyoos Indian Band building.

She said she has no idea why or how her car was set on fire.
