Cold start awaits in 2018

Conditions aren't quite ideal in Okanagan Lake, but not everyone can wait until summer to hit the beach.

The public will have a chance to plunge into 2018 when the Kinsmen Club of Summerland hosts its 32nd annual Polar Bear Dip on New Year's Day.

The new year tradition will be held at Sun-Oka Beach at noon on Jan. 1.

Prizes will be awarded for the best costume for male, female, oldest, youngest and team categories.

The Kinsmen Club will provide hot dogs, hot chocolate and collector tee shirts by donation.

"We're extremely fortunate to have our local community business donate prizes and sponsor our tee shirts, and we love giving back to the community by hosting this event," Summerland Kinsmen President Blair Gillingham said.

Proceeds will benefit community events done by the Kinsmen Club.
