Firefighters chipping trees

Penticton firefighters are raising money for muscular dystrophy and the burn fund with Christmas tree pickup and chipping.

Residents are encouraged to call the Penticton Fire Department at 250-490-2315 to arrange for their tree to be picked up by firefighters during their off time in exchange for a donation.

On Jan. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the public can drop off their tree for chipping at Station 202, where hot chocolate and hot dogs will be provided by Penticton Firefighters Local 1399.

The chipped trees will be taken to the Campbell Mountain Landfill for composting.

The Christmas tree pick-up service will operate from Dec. 28 until Jan. 17.

In Summerland, residents can call the fire hall at 250-404-4087 or email [email protected] to request collection of their Christmas trees. Summerland Secondary students will also be out Jan. 7 to 14 collecting trees for dry grad.

In Naramata, volunteer firefighters will come and pick up your discarded tree on Saturday morning on Jan. 13. Residents need to request pickup by email at [email protected]
