Funds for climate change

The District of Summerland is one of 18 communities across Canada selected by the federal government to participate in an environmental initiative.

The district has received $52,000 through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to move the community’s asset management strategy in line with climate change goals.

The two-year program will combine peer-learning, training, and funding to help consider climate change while making decisions about infrastructure like roads, buildings, electricity and sewer.

Mayor Peter Waterman said he’s excited Summerland was selected.

“Our asset management strategy will be made stronger by including climate change considerations right from the start as this will allow us to plan for the future based on the changing needs of our infrastructure due to extreme weather events.”

“We are also looking forward to doing our part to mitigate climate change and save our residents money by purposefully purchasing and building more energy efficient and sustainably-made products and buildings.”
