Known house catches fire

An Oliver home caught fire early Tuesday morning, but was quickly tackled by fire crews.

Firefighters arrived on scene just after midnight to find the vacant home at 5439 Primrose Lane billowing with thick smoke.

About a year ago the house was the scene of a major RCMP operation. Dillon Cote, 23, and Michelle Mercier, 21, were gassed out of the home at the end of a 10-hour standoff with police following a cross-province crime spree.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it’s not considered to be suspicious, according to the Oliver RCMP.

There was severe damage to the interior and exterior of the home, but no one was injured.
