OHA launches scholarships

A new charitable wing of the Okanagan Hockey Group has been granted status as a registered charity by the CRA.

The Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation will aim to help families who face financial barriers “in pursuit of academic excellence through hockey.”

“This is an opportunity to make a difference not only in their lives, but in our communities in the future,” said OHCF chairman Michael O’Conner.

The focus of OHCF programming will be the personal development — in the classroom and on the ice — of students and athletes in the community.

Tuition to the Okanagan Hockey Academy can be a large burden for some parents, but the OHCF will try to make it more feasible for families with a scholarship and bursary program.

“The support the foundation provides will certainly have long term impact within our communities,” said OHCF executive director Kalli Quinn.

More information on the charity can be found here.
