$500K for child care spaces

The Osoyoos Indian Band’s Inkameep preschool and daycare has received just under a half a million dollars to create 12 new child care spaces.

The money is part of $33M announced for 52 communities Monday by the provincial government.

"I'm excited to be announcing that we are building thousands of child-care spaces throughout B.C., including more than ever before for Indigenous communities," Minister of Children and Family Development Katrine Conroy said in a news release.

The funding will create six spaces for children aged three to five years and six preschool spaces.

The Oliver daycare was the only one in the South Okanagan to receive funding, but several daycares in Kelowna and Lake Country received a combined $1.2M.
