Mattes wins byelection

David Mattes is the newest councillor in the Town of Oliver.

Mattes won Saturday's byelection by earning 365 total votes.

A total of 811 votes were cast between advanced polling on Nov. 22 and Saturday's general voting.

The next highest vote-getter was Aimee Grace with 197, followed by Peter McKenna with 101.

Mattes, 60, served one term previously as a councillor in the town from 2011 to 2014. He narrowly missed being re-elected to council in 2014.

The byelection took place with eight candidates, following the resignation of former councillor Jack Bennest.
