Oktoberfest gives back

Colton Davies

Oktoberfest Penticton had everything you would expect on Saturday night, from authentic beers, to traditional foods and entertainment.

The 8th annual Penticton-edition of Oktoberfest took place at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

Organizers were pleased with the size of Saturday’s night crowd, noting lots of competition to draw the public to events in town this weekend.

"What's here is a good time. It's a place to come eat, drink, dance. See friends," co-chair Barb Schneiderat said.

"Hopefully we earn some money that we can put back into... this year, the hospital."

Proceeds raised from tickets for the event are being donated to the Penticton Regional Hospital.

Schneiderat said that Oktobfest organizers have been saving proceeds for two years, and by the end of Saturday night they will have saved enough to have one of the 84 new patient rooms being built named after their event.

"Over the years we've helped some smaller things... It's just a great thing for us to be able to do, put the money back into the hospital."
