New parking lot going in

Five lots downtown Penticton are slated to become private parking for employees of Valley First.

On Tuesday, city council will receive a rezoning application for the property at the corner of Westminster Avenue and Winnipeg Street. The site previously held a gas station until 2003, when the building was demolished. It's sat empty since.

The final design of the new parking lot will feature 39 stalls, and have access coming from the rear lane. As a result, three driveways will need to be closed, and several curbs rebuilt. City staff are recommending the city installs four street trees along the frontage.

The parking lot will be open to the public in the evenings and on weekends.
