'A great Peach Festival'

Chantelle Deacon

The 70th annual Penticton Peach Festival came to a close Sunday evening under clear skies.

The wildfire smoke that filled the valley touched most of the festival, but it didn't seem to hinder the celebrations, with thousands attending between Aug. 9 and 13.

"I don't think the smoke affected the attendance at all, it maybe affected the overall heat, which was a good thing," said Bruce Millington director of Penticton Peach Festival. "It get's too hot a lot of people stay home but because of the smoke the heat didn't get that intense."

The biggest crowds of all time came out on opening night for the Skyhawks parachute team, the CF-18 demo team and an abbreviated show from the Snowbirds. For many it was the highlight of Peachfest, according to Millington.

"All in all its been a great Peach Festival, I don't know how we're going to top it next year," Millington said. "We'll start planning that in September and I'm sure we'll do something for next year."

The Reel Peachfest Film Festival and Tom Lavin & The Legendary Powder Blues Band hit the stage  shutting down Peachfest Sunday on high note.
