Penticton fire bans

Due to high fire danger, a temporary fire ban has gone into effect for the South Okanagan.

Effective at noon Friday, all open burning including campfires and fireworks are now prohibited the City of Penticton said in a press release.

The ban is in conjunction with the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen, including Summerland, Oliver, Osoyoos, Princeton and Keremos and the Penticton Indian Band.

The PIB issued a similar statement on Friday.

Effective immediately and until further notice, all open burning – including campfires and fireworks – will be prohibited within the IR#1 and IR #2 boundaries. The ban prohibits any open fires including portable wood burning fireplaces and campfires.

The ban does not restrict fires in cooking stoves using gas, propane or briquettes or to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating, as long as the flame height does not exceed 15 centimetres.

Any guests to the reserve are required to obtain an access permit through the PIB Lands Department; all others will be considered trespassers and will be removed.
