Scottish Festival on Saturday

The annual Penticton Scottish Festival runs on Saturday in King’s Park, a full day of Celtic competition and entertainment for the whole family.

The 12-hour event will feature pipe bands, highland dancing and Scottish heavy games like the iconic caber toss, stock dog competitions and activities for children. It has has traditionally been held on the first Saturday in July, which coincides with Canada Day this year.

"One of the highlights for me is the massed bands during the opening and closing ceremonies, where dozens of pipers and drummers march and play in unison," said Wayne McDougall, president of the Penticton Scottish Festival Society.

The Celtic kids corner will have activities for the wee ones, including the kids caber toss and the haggis hurl.

Other attractions at the festival include a beverage garden, along with article and food vendors.

Admission includes the full day of activity and the Celtic Ceilidh.

A full schedule of the day's events can be found here.
