Kyle Anderson describes himself as a 'shameless self-promoter,' when it comes to his band, Kyle Anderson's Amazing Rubber Band.

Anderson, 48, has been in the music business the majority of his life.

Born and raised in Penticton, Anderson formed the Amazing Rubber Band trio in 1997. He was the entertainment editor for the Penticton Herald for seven years, has worked in both theatre and radio, but says music is his oldest passion.

“I'm probably the only person in Penticton who makes a living by playing in a band,” Anderson jokes.

Starting on June 17th, the Amazing Rubber Band is entering it's fifth season of entertaining people at the Barking Parrot patio in the Penticton Lakeside Resort. Between that and the private parties, it is going to be a hectic summer, says Anderson.

“I'd have to say we are the busiest band in Penticton, between now and Wine Fest, we don't get a weekend off,” says Anderson.

He says they are a 'summertime' band that plays pop music from the 50's and 60's because it is music that everyone knows.

“We have no desire to educate people to what we consider to be great music, we would prefer to play music they want to hear,” says Anderson.

He says they have a lot of gigs scheduled for this summer, but the one he is most looking forward to isn't open to the public.

“It is certainly going to help (being in a band) in July, because as father of the bride, Dad's band is the cheapest one around!” Says Anderson, whose daughter Erin is getting married in the first week of July.

He says that once all his children graduated from high school and college he became a bit of a Renaissance man.

“When my 20-year-old daughter said, 'Dad, it's your turn to be a kid,' I took her up on it,” says Anderson.

The Amazing Rubber Band has released two CD's, the first is self-titled, the second is called 'Live 2005, ' and they are planning to record a live album when they play a tribute to the Beatles Saturday night at the Cleland Theatre.
