Cultural Centre Opens

The brand new, state-of-the-art Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos opened its door for the first time on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Penticton Herald, the list of dignitaries that attended the grand opening ceremony included Premier Gordon Campbell, Indian Band Chiefs from all over the Okanagan and council members from Washington state.

The Cultural Centre will serve an important role in the preservation of the Okanagan culture as well as enhancing tourism opportunities in the South Okanagan.

The Centre has both indoor and outdoor exhibits with interactive stations and hands-on features as well as trails that go through about 50 acres of the Great Basin Desert.

The Centre cost about nine million dollars and is a key part of the Osoyoos Indian Band's on-going development of the Nk'Mip Resort.
