Thrash wrestling a hit

Wrestlers with names like Black Dragon and Maddog Marty Sugar thrilled a good-sized crowd at the Penticton Legion on Saturday night.

They were just two of the competitors at the exciting thrash wrestling event, billed as War and Pieces.

"If you love wrestling there is no show better than mine," said promoter Nick Szalanski. "You get the comedy, the strong style, the brawling, the high flying and some hard core too."

Szalanski started running the events in Enderby over a decade ago and branched out from there.

Thrash wrestling now takes place all over the Okanagan, with the legion on Martin Street being the latest stop.

"I was looking for an affordable venue and found it," said Szalanski. "It also supports all aspects of the Legion having an event like this here."

Saturday night's wrestling offered up five different matches, with the main event being thrash wrestling champion Adam Ryder vs The Great Kasaki and Matt Xstatic, a triple threat match.

As the night went on, wrestlers delighted the crowd with their antics both in the ring and out.

The next thrash wrestling event will be April 15 at the Edgewater Inn Bar and Grill in Peachland.
