The Penticton Vees opened their playoff run on a solid note, dispatching the Merritt Centennials 4-1.
The Vees hosted Merritt in round two of the BC Hockey League Interior Division playoffs and the Vees best offence was their defence.
D-man Gabe Bast scored twice and fellow blue-liner Griffin Mendel scored his first career playoff goal to give the Penticton squad a commanding lead.
Vees Cpt. Nicholas Jones scored, late in the third, as the Vees took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven in front of over 3,000 fans.
Mat Robson was solid between the pipes, turning aside 26 of 27 shots.
There was some concerns heading into the game after a 21-day layoff for the Vees, but those concerns faded fast when Bast opened the scoring a mere 84 seconds into the contest.
The Vees will host the Centennials again tonight before the series shifts to Merritt for two more games.
