Downtown smash and grab

A long-standing Penticton business is the latest to be targeted in a break and enter in downtown Penticton.

The Bumwrap, on the 200 block of Main Street, was broken into at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, according to owner Donny Ellis.

Ellis said someone threw a rock through the front door to gain access and made off with watches and over a dozen pairs of sunglasses. They broke the glass on a display case to gain access to the Maui Jim shades.

The value of the watches is estimated at $1,000, while the sunglasses were worth about $3,000.

It will cost Ellis about $1,000 to fix the front door.

"You feel a little bit violated, but it's almost one of those things that you expect to have happen at some point, especially with all the break ins in the area recently," said Ellis. "It's just untimely because of the time of the year."

The RCMP are investigating the incident.
