Building a well in Nepal

A group of South Okanagan residents is currently fundraising for a well/water system in Nepal.

The village had two wells but one was damaged in an earthquake, so they are eager to do their part, according to organizers.

One of the residents Jerry Monahan initially met a guide who lives in the village of Madhavpur, in the Chitwan province, Nepal in 2010.

He is now going back in April and will visit the village as a guest of his guide, Prakash Bhattarai.

The group is also in the process of finding a non-governmental organization in Chitwan to oversee the project.

It was referred to them from another NGO in Nepal that works with World Neighbours Canada, but not in Chitwan.

The group is  kicking off the campaign by offering tickets to a Canucks game, worth about $150 each, to the highest bidder.

The tickets, gifted by Mort Lauder of Kaleden, are for the game on March 9 at Rogers Arena where Vancouver will play the Islanders.

Bids will close at 2 p.m. on Feb. 22 and they will let the winner know soon after.

If the tickets are not of interest, residents can support the project by making donations at any Valley First Credit Union.

The name of the account is: WWIPAL Project - Nepal   # 2284982

Bids on the hockey tickets can be done on their Facebook page: Wwipal Project Chitwan Nepal or by emailing: [email protected]
