Cannabis exhibit coming

In anticipation of the government of Canada's promised introduction of federal legislation to legalize marijuana, the Penticton Art Gallery is holding an exhibition titled Grassland.

The exhibit will explore the politics, culture, history and economic impact of marijuana on society.

As far as organizers can tell this will be the first exhibition of its kind to be held in a public gallery in Canada and it is already attracting a great deal of public interest.

There is currently a call out for submissions and the gallery is getting responses from artists from all over then world.

Sponsors are also being sought.

The purpose of this is twofold: first to raise funds to pay for the exhibition and its programming and secondly so that participation will collectively reinforce the scope and economic impact the legalization of marijuana will have on society.

The exhibit will open at the gallery on March 24 and continue through May 14 and will include a wide range of programming through its run.

There will also be an  Alice in Wonderland-themed opening party on March 17.

Gallery curator Paul Crawford can be reached at [email protected]
