Cops win foot chase

In the end, police won the race.

Police were alerted to a man ransacking vehicles with a flashlight last week in Penticton.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police responded to a report of a man behind the Lancaster Place Apartments on Main Street just before midnight Dec. 6.

When officers arrived, they found a man near a grey Dodge van with a smashed out window.

The suspect, who is known to police, took off running. But he was cuffed after a foot chase.

The suspect claimed to be in distress because he had taken too much meth and heroin and was taken to hospital. He was later released and taken to the Penticton detachment.

The suspect was found to be in breach of probation and had break-in tools and several items from vehicles in his possession.

According to court records, Amos Atkins is in custody.

He appeared by video in court on Wednesday. The matter was put over to Dec. 21.
