Short list for new top cop

The search for a new superintendent for the Penticton RCMP detachment and surrounding rural areas has been narrowed down to four people from around the country.

A hiring committee is in place, including Mayor Andrew Jakubeit, RDOS chair Karla Kozakevich and the RCMP, with interviews set to take place in January.

"We want to make it clear we don't want this to be a retirement positing for anyone on the last leg of their career," said Jakubeit. "We want an up and coming community minded individual who is going to understand rural policing as well as the realities of a larger detachment."

The previous top cop, Supt. Kevin Hewco retired on Sept. 19, after 30 years of service to the RCMP.

Staff-Sgt. Kirsten Marshall has been serving as the acting officer in charge in the interim.
