The City of Penticton is offering a new option for those buying tags for extra garbage bags left out on collection day.
People can now buy Tag a Bag coupons, which people can attach to extra bags of garbage left out next to full bins, in bulk for $62.50 per 25 tags, whereas previously they were only available for $3.50 per tag.
The new option saves about a dollar per tag, which arose out of greater needs for some groups.
Among those are rental properties that put out more garbage from time to time. A staff report says bulk buys would allow the tenant to put extra waste at the curb when needed, rather than the landlord buying a larger or extra cart.
Landlords can also buy tags in bulk to distribute to their tenants if needed.
Carriage houses and people with medical issues were others identified that may need to put out more garbage on a regular but not weekly basis.
An extra or larger bin costs $112.20 a year.
