Teacher reprimanded

A SD67 teacher has been reprimanded for making a series of inappropriate comments toward students.

In a consent resolution agreement published by the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, Blair Haddrell admitted to making the comments in the 2014/15 school year while he was the coach of the grade nine girls basketball team. He currently resides in Summerland.

“You are a good looking grade nine,” he told one female student, “you can date anyone you want.”

He also told a pair of female students going to a dance, “you guys are good looking, guys will want to dance with you.”

In March 2015, School District 67 issued Haddrell a letter of discipline and restricted him from volunteer coaching. The documents also show Haddrell received a letter of expectation in May 2012, outlining professional conduct and relationships with students. He was also required to take the BCTF Boundaries Course, which he completed that month.

In his deposition, Haddrell admitted his conduct was unprofessional and agreed to the reprimand.

It’s not clear at which school the incidents took place.
