Eneas ousts Kruger as chief

The Penticton Indian Band has a new chief.

Former band councillor Chad Eneas will be taking the office, ousting two-term Chief Jonathan Kruger.

Eneas will serve as chief for at least four years, after winning the election with 179 votes. That was followed by Kruger at 124 votes and community member Joe Jack at 27 votes.

Initially there were four candidates, but councillor Clint George dropped out of the race

Eneas will assume the duties immediately and will sit at the table for the next regularly scheduled chief and council meeting on Nov. 1.

Once council elections are finished, the new leadership will convene to sign their commitment and the oath of office.

The PIB is preparing a media event to greet the new chief.
