Get scared for a cause

Dustin Godfrey

A Penticton couple is once again going all out to scare people this Halloween.

For the fifth year in a row Erik and Lisa Laflamme are transforming their home into the haunted attraction, Dr. Franks Insanitorium.

"The witches have moved into the mausoleum, the jail cell is back again and who is going to be in it, we don't know, and we are still giving out lots of candy," said Erik Laflamme as he walked through the attraction this week.

The couple has long been hooked on creating haunted houses, offering attractions in North Vancouver before moving to Penticton.

The huge undertaking is also an opportunity to celebrate their wedding aniversary, because the couple wed on Halloween.

"Instead of going on a trip for our wedding anniversary or going out for a nice dinner, this is how we celebrate our anniversary," said Laflamme.

New attractions include the large mausoleum in the front yard and a homage to the movie "Silent Hill," which is based on a video game.

Scary features from past years are the return of Dr. Frank who will be on site playing with dead bodies, the spooky graveyard and the stockade.

As in past years, cash donations will be donated to the Upper Deck Vees, a special needs hockey team.

"The team through their own altruism is then giving what is raised to the Agur Lake Society," said Laflamme.

Part of the proceeds from a guy selling hot dogs at the attraction, will go to the Upper Deck Vees, as well.

Dr. Franks Insanitorium, at the bottom of Creekside Road, will be held on four nights this year.

Dates are Oct, 28, 29, 30 and 31, from 7 to 10 p.m..

If there is a long line up they will stay open later.

The attraction may be too scary for young children.
