Readying for ski season

This weekend is a good time to shop for ski and snowboard gear for the upcoming ski season.

The Canadian Ski Patrol's Winter Extreme Ski and Board Swap is now underway at the Penticton Curling Club.

"We've got a lot of product available and an excellent turnout," said swap manager Kirk Marleau. "People were lined up when we opened the doors Friday morning, and we want to encourage people to come down to get rid of their old equipment and get their gear for this year at a reasonable price."

The event is put on by the Apex Zone Ski Patrol to raise funds for the volunteer ski patrol at Apex Mountain Resort. The patrol is a volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion of safe sliding and premier first aid care.

The way it works at the longtime swap is people bring in their used ski and snowboard equipment to sell and organizers then take a percentage of sales.

Currently available is equipment ranging from skis, boots and poles to snowboards for everyone from young to old. There is also some new gear at the swap.

The swap kicked off Friday and will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday at the curling club.
