Boutique mall opening

A new boutique mall, featuring retail and residential spaces, officially opened its doors on Penticton's Main Street on Friday.

The Tiffany's Boutique Mall, at the site of a former nightclub, offers nine boutique spots on the first floor and five residential units on the second floor.

"I am ecstatic that it is finally done," said John Vassilaki, who owns the building with his family. "It took a long time with a lot of the work having to be done by hand."

The building has housed the Royal Canadian Legion and a nightclub over the years.

After Vassilaki decided to do something different at the site at 535 Main Street, work commenced on the new mall last August.

On Friday, guests were invited to tour the building, eat and sample wine served in never-used glasses from Tiffany's Night Club.

The highlight was the ribbon cutting by MLA Dan Ashton, who joined the Vassilaki family at the event.

"Development in the downtown core always strengthen the heart of a community," Ashton said. "And nobody does it better in Penticton than the Vassilaki family."

Attendee and Summerland resident Tyler Chick agreed.

"I think it's great to have a space where you can have a number of small businesses together in the downtown core," he said.

Vassilaki said now they are officially open they will be leasing the boutique spots on the first floor.

The five residential spaces are already rented out.
