A drag of a weekend

Drag racers will be convening at the Osoyoos airport on Sunday to burn some rubber on the tracks.

The Wine Country Racing Association will be hosting the seventh annual Rumble in the Valley car club challenge at the Richter Pass Motorplex at the Osoyoos airport.

The races will bring several clubs to the race track, including Okanagan Rodtiques of Penticton, the Coachmasters of Oliver, the Kelowna Kustoms, the Cam Jammers of Vernon and the Cactus Jalopies of Osoyoos.

In a release, the WCRA said three-way ties between racing clubs at two wins apiece have been logged in the books in the history of the race.

Registration begins on Saturday at 2 p.m., with practice runs being held at 3 p.m., but the races start Sunday morning, with gates opening at 9 a.m.

Admission is $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult.

Racers and vehicles must pass safety inspections, so drivers are asked to show up early to give the course a couple of test runs.

Eliminations begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Concessions are available on site, and grandstand seating will be set up, but attendees are advised that seats fill up quickly. People can bring lawn chairs, or back their trucks up near to the finish line.

The event marks the second-last race day for the year, with Oct. 9 marking closing day for the WCRA.

Last year, 100 drivers came together for the six-race event.
