A man has been given six months of house arrest in a case of attempted identity theft.
Jedd Ladeur, 39, was sentenced Monday morning for his attempt to buy a phone at the London Drugs on Main Street in Penticton using the social insurance card of Jessy Michaud – a man who is well known to the Penticton courthouse.
Ladeur, who suffers from PTSD and oxycontin addiction after a car crash, told police at the time of the incident that he needed a cellphone badly.
He has been known to use drugs recreationally, including crack-cocaine, and has two convictions of theft under $5,000 under his belt.
The victim, Michaud, also has had his time before the judge, with prior convictions of break and enter and theft under $5,000.
Ladeur was given three months of house arrest, followed by three months of a curfew and probation, which includes a mandate that he does not enter the London Drugs at which he committed the crime.
