Man wields machete

The Penticton RCMP responded to a report of a man with a machete in a park north of Penticton last week.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth said there were complaints of a 300-pound man with a machete threatening people at Soorimpt Park, off the highway.

When they arrived they found him sitting calmly on a park bench. The man told police he uses the machete to cut fish and had just sharpened it.

He apologized for his actions and since there was no real offence, he was only issued a B.C. Parks trespass notice, Wrigglesworth said.

The man was sent on his way, after voluntarily surrendering the machete to police.

Wrigglesworth said it's not illegal to have machetes, it's what people are doing with them.
