Pot dispensary put out

The town of Osoyoos has shut down a recently opened medical marijuana outlet.

According to the RCMP and Mayor Sue McKortoff, Starbuds was shut down by the town last week because it was operating without a business licence and they had learned it was also selling marijuana.

"There is currently no legal provision in Canada that makes it legal for these dispensaries to sell marijuana or marijuana products," said Cpl. Jason Bayda.  "Our office simply attended after the fact and provided the business with a warning that should they continue to sell marijuana they could face criminal charges.

At this time we are not taking any enforcement action, but we will be monitoring the situation and continuing to consult with the town."

Grant Bruce, the manager of the store, could not be immediately reached for comment.

According to the website for the store, they are a medical marijuana access centre that strives to bring the best customer service and medical resources available to the public into the mainstream.

There are also Starbuds operating in Penticton, Kamloops and other locations.
