Power outages planned

Penticton's electric utility is planning power outages in several service areas in the city in upcoming weeks.

The outage is required to allow crews to make necessary changes, upgrades or repairs to the electrical distribution system.

The upgrades are a step in updating the Westminster and Hut Substation supply voltage from an eight-kilovolt to a 12-kilovolt system, according to communications officer Tina Lee.

Having the 12-kilovolt system consistent throughout the city will increase the system's capacity to handle larger loads and the flexibility to restore power during emergencies.

The outages will happen between May 29 and July 1 and each planned outage will last approximately six hours.
