Bike thief flips off cops

Bike theft continues to be an ongoing problem in Penticton.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth reports there have been numerous thefts in the past week, starting with the theft on Tuesday of a Kona Blast mountain bike that was locked up on Main Street.

Three black Kona Blast bikes were also stolen from the Penticton hostel garage, with one recovered the same night it was stolen.

A man, who gave the police the finger as he rode by on a stolen bike, was charged with stolen property.

A Norco Fluid mountain bike was also stolen from a backyard on a Maple Street and a silver and blue Trek Fuel mountain bike was stolen from the 1700 block of Main Street.

There was also a report of a white Cannondale hybrid bike being stolen from a Penticton Avenue residence.

Two stolen bikes were recovered that same day. A man was arrested for being in possession of stolen property.

With the high number of bike thefts, Wrigglesworth advises people to record the serial numbers on their bikes.

He advises taking pictures and having copies. If police can identify the bikes through serial numbers, they can get them back to their owners.
