Ground breaks on casino

Ground will be broken next week on a $25-million casino in Penticton.

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment will begin work on the Cascades Casino Penticton, next to the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The casino will feature a large gaming floor with entertainment and multiple dining options, including the Match Eatery and Public House, with a rooftop patio.

The project is expected to create up to 150 new jobs and 200 person-years of construction employment.  When fully staffed, the casino will have approximately 300 employees.

Construction has already begun and will continue throughout 2016, with a grand opening planned for spring 2017.

Officials will release more project details on Friday, at the ceremonial groundbreaking.

Tony Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, will be joined by Dan Ashton, MLA for Penticton, and Mayor Andrew Jakubeit.
