Top skaters to flip at fest

Some of the top skateboarders and BMX riders in the province will be participating in Peachfest in Penticton this summer.

The fourth annual PenTown Throwdown will be one of the highlights of the festival.

"This will be a great spectator event. You won't believe the tricks that some of these boarders and riders can perform," said festival director Joe Chwachka.

Continuing the tradition of Peachfest being a free event, all spectators can attend the events at the Riverside Drive Youth Park at no charge.

Event tickets are required for contestants who are competing for cash prizes on Aug. 6.

To kick off the Throwdown, Freeride Boardshop will host a professional skateboard demonstration from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Riverside Drive Youth Park on Aug. 5.

Then on Aug. 6, skateboarders and BMX riders of all ages will compete for a total cash purse of over $2,000 in various street and bowl events. Events will run from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for all age groups.

To register as a participant and to find more information on the event visit the website and click on the PenTown Throwdown link.

Competition entry tickets are on sale now and cost $21.80.

For those planning to compete, Chwachka recommends getting names entered early as there is a limited number of spaces.

The competitions are sponsored by Pentagon Boardshop and Freedom Bike Shop.

On Aug. 7, the B.C. Action Sports Association will host a professional BMX competition from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A new addition to the event this year is hip hop artist KASP, who will emcee the event and provide entertainment.
