Centre set to reopen

The Naramata Centre is readying to open from May 28 to Oct. 15.

According to the centre society, they will have accommodation and camping options for people who wish to stay at the centre.

Doug Woollard, chair of the society, said they have three outcomes they are seeking for the coming summer.

"First, we have not yet made the decision to re-open permanently and want to test the interest and support for doing so by inviting people to come back. Second, we want to generate revenue to cover the costs of maintaining the centre throughout the year," he said.  "Our third outcome is for people to be able to experience spiritual growth and community once again at Naramata."

He added that the centre is able to open this summer as the board is managing it directly with the help of a large number of volunteers and very limited temporary staff.

In the months ahead, they are welcoming people from across B.C. and Alberta for week-long stays, Saturday to Saturday.

During the period the facility is open, it will offer 40 different programs, designed to appeal to adults, children and youth.

The society has also had a great response from local artists and program leaders who are offering their skills and talents in leading a program.

People do not need to stay at the centre to participate.

The centre offered a wide variety of programs for many years before closing its doors in January of 2015.
