Fatal crash closes Hwy 3

UPDATE 8:40 P.M.

Highway 3 has now fully reopened to traffic about 21 kilometres east of Osoyoos.


UPDATE 7:35 P.M.

RCMP in the South Okanagan say one person was killed as a result of a crash on Highway 3 about 21 kilometres east of Osoyoos.

The incident occurred about 4:30.

Sgt. Hallett with South Okanagan Traffic Services says the driver of a westbound Dodge pickup lost control on a curve and slid into the eastbound lane. An eastbound Chevy Tahoe hit the Dodge broadside.

The lone occupant of the Dodge, a 68-year-old Osoyoos woman was killed at the scene.

Two occupants of the Tahoe sustained minor injuries.

The highway has been reduced to single lane alternating traffic.
 


No details are available but a crash has forced closure of a portion of Highway 3 near Osoyoos.

According to DriveBC, a stretch of the highway is closed in both directions 22 km east of Osoyoos.

An assessment is underway. No word on when the road will be open again.

There is no detour available.
